Every two minutes, a house fire is reported in the US; numbers that increase during the holidays. The good news is it just takes a minute to help prevent fires and save families.

For 118 years Underwriters Laboratories has worked as a not-for-profit member of society to promote safe living and working environments for people. In this :30 PSA, UL teams up with Kermit, Bunsen and Beaker from Disney's The Muppets in a fun and engaging way to help protect families this holiday season.

The spot encourages families to Commit a Minute to Safety with the following potentially tragedy-preventing advice:

  • Water your tree every day. A dry tree fire can fully engulf a room in less than one minute.
  • Discard and replace worn or damaged lights. They are a common source of fire and shock.
  • Look for the UL Mark. Holiday lights manufacturers use the UL Mark to show that their lights have been tested to meet US Safety Standards, and the UL Mark helps consumers avoid dangerous counterfeit products.

At UL, we've been helping protect generations of families for more than 100 years. From testing everyday products in our labs to certifying sustainability in the future, we continually innovate the very definition of safety. We hope you'll help us continue this mission and run our PSA as often as you can between now and December 31.
