Millions with COPD

COPD – short for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease – is a serious lung disease that over time makes it hard to breathe. The disease is the third leading cause of death in the United States and is sometimes also called emphysema or chronic bronchitis.

The COPD Learn More Breathe Better® program seeks to increase awareness of COPD as a serious lung disease; increase understanding that COPD is treatable; and encourage people at risk to get a simple breathing test and talk to their health care providers about treatment options.

The program is for men and women, especially those who smoke or have smoked, and those with risk associated with genetics and or environmental exposures. In addition, the program aims to reach people who have been diagnosed with COPD as well as health care providers, particularly those in the primary care setting.
